Westerman Statement on Vote to Raise the Debt Ceiling
WASHINGTON – Reacting to the partisan passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of S. 1301 to raise the debt limit, Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) released the following statement:
“Today, House Democrats unilaterally voted to suspend the debt limit once again to pay for their own reckless spending,” said Congressman Westerman. “Speaker Pelosi brought this bill to the floor so that she can run up the debt to “pay for” her liberal priorities in the upcoming reconciliation bill. This vote is intricately linked to the over $4 trillion reconciliation bill that will raise taxes and hurt small businesses across America.
Until Congress takes real steps to act responsibly and spend more wisely, I cannot support a limitless debt limit suspension that allows Speaker Pelosi to go on a liberal spending spree.”
