Westerman Statement on Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act:
“American businesses are facing unprecedented economic headwinds and need fast, efficient relief because of the necessary government restrictions put in place to deal with the pandemic. Before initial funding for the Paycheck Protection Program ran out, it had already assisted almost 22,000 businesses in Arkansas alone, many of which would have had to lay off employees or potentially close without this program. The bill we passed today will allow even more businesses across the country to access funds, as well as increase testing capabilities and support for health care providers. However, Congress cannot continue relying on last-minute emergency funding as the only way to combat COVID-19. It’s time for us to begin implementing measures that allow committees to meet, members to work together on legislation and offices to advocate on behalf of our constituents to help them get through this crisis. These measures must be bipartisan and with approval of the vast majority of the House.”
