Westerman Statement on China Trade Deal

January 15, 2020

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement after U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He signed Phase I of a trade deal:

"President Trump has accomplished what previous administrations failed to do: get China to come to the table and actually sign an agreement. This is the first time China has been willing to reform the way they do business with the U.S., addressing longstanding intellectual property theft and ending forced technology transfers. It's also a big win for Arkansas agriculture, expanding poultry, pork, beef and soybean exports. We still have work to do to ensure fair trade with China continues on all fronts, but Phase I of the deal is an important first step. I hope to see American farmers and businesses continue to benefit from future phases of the deal."
