OUTDOORS: James River will host top pro bass anglers this weekend

THE BASS PRO SHOPS Bassmaster Northern Open takes place on the james River this weekend with nearly 200 of the top bass anglers in the world scheduled to participate.
Three Northern Open events have been staged on the James in recent years and competitors regularly make long runs to find the best fishing. Detours off the main river are the norm, with the Chickahominy a favored hotspot.
Boats will launch from the Osborne Park and Boat Landing at 6 a.m. Weigh-ins the first two days are at the launch site at 2 p.m. The day three final weigh-in will be at the Bass Pro Shops store in Ashland at 3 p.m.
