- Too many deer? Too few? If you have opinions on what needs to be done in the management of Virginia’s deer herd, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries wants to hear from you. The agency has invited public input as it revises its Deer Management Plan, which was completed in 1999. This is its third revision. Comments will be received June 10 to July 10 on the agency’s Web site, www.huntfishva.com.
- A U.S. House of Representatives committee Thursday will vote on a bill that would clear the way for professional foresters to do their job on national forest land, that is, manage the forest to improve habitat for wildlife species. That would mean more cutting to provide new growth. The bill, H.R. 2647, is sponsored by Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) and has the support of the Boone and Crockett Club.
- Hunters for the Hungry is scheduled to receive a major grant from Wal-Mart Thursday during a 10 a.m. presentation at the Wal-Mart Store on Wards Road in Lynchburg. Other recipients of Wal-Mart’s generosity at that time are Blessings in a Backpack and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
