Forest management bill may expedite post wildfire salvage projects

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that could lead to an expansive overhaul of the way national forests are managed.

House Resolution 2647, authored by Representative Bruce Westerman (R-AR), is divided into numerous sections targeting expedited forest management activities, post wildfire salvage, litigation restrictions and miscellaneous other provisions.

Moving to reduce the amount of time in between catastrophic wildfire and post-fire activities, the bill would require that any salvage operation or reforestation activity proposed for an affected area be completed within three months after the wildfire.
