Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act Supports Arkansas Tourism
On Monday (November 14), the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4665, the Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act of 2016.
According to the House Republican Conference, this bill “directs the Bureau of Economic Analysis to assess and analyze the outdoor recreation economy of the United States and the effects attributable to it on the overall economy. In conducting the assessment, the Bureau may consider employment, sales, contributions to travel and tourism, and other appropriate contributing components of the outdoor recreation economy.”
In Arkansas alone, the Outdoor Industry Association estimates that outdoor recreation generates $10 billion in consumer spending, 126,000 direct Arkansas jobs, $2.9 billion in wages and salaries, and $696 million in state and local tax revenue. The group goes on to note that 63 percent of Arkansans participate in outdoor recreation each year.
In the Fourth District, we are home to the Buffalo National River and Hot Springs National Park. With so many outdoor recreation opportunities residing in my home district, I pledge to continue backing the industry that provides so much for Arkansans.
